LOS ANGELES / HUNTINGTON BEACH / SACRAMENTO — November 3, 2026. KTLA 5’s late-morning Election Day broadcast followed the final hours of campaigning in the Los Angeles mayoral race and California governor’s race. Reporters Kimberly Cheng and Angelica Hockaday described candidate appearances, voting footage and remarks to reporters. The broadcast is a snapshot of the campaign as polls remained open, not a report of final election results.
Los Angeles: Bass campaigns, Raman votes
Reporting from the Westlake district, KTLA said Mayor Karen Bass visited the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor headquarters to speak with union members. Bass discussed her administration’s record and said she hoped to see an end to large street encampments by 2030. That is a campaign pledge, not an established outcome.
KTLA also reported that Bass’s challenger, City Councilmember Nithya Raman, voted with her family at Silver Lake Community Church earlier Tuesday. Raman criticized city service performance under Bass and described her priorities for municipal government. The two candidates’ statements are competing campaign arguments; California58 does not endorse either.
Orange County: Hilton campaigns in Huntington Beach
KTLA’s Angelica Hockaday interviewed Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton at a restaurant or café in Huntington Beach. Hilton emphasized his proposals to reduce taxes and household expenses and argued for a change in state leadership. He cited rallies in several California cities. These descriptions of crowd sizes and public support are his claims, not independently verified attendance counts.
The broadcast did not show Hilton casting his ballot at the Huntington Beach stop. A campaign appearance should not be confused with a polling-place visit.
Sacramento: Becerra votes with his wife
The same KTLA segment showed footage of Democratic gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra at a Sacramento polling place with his wife. Speaking to reporters after voting, Becerra said he hoped to make a difference as governor and reflected on public service. The station reported that he planned to spend election night in Sacramento; Hilton’s event was expected in Garden Grove.
